About 40th Pole Beach
40th Pole Beach on Nantucket's north shore offers calm, sheltered waters ideal for swimming and families, backed by low dunes and beach grass that create an intimate, quieter alternative to the island's busier south-facing beaches. The beach takes its name from the numbered poles that once marked the lifeguard stations along this stretch of coast, and today it retains a low-key, residential feel with easy access from nearby neighborhoods. The shallow bay waters warm up earlier in the season than the ocean beaches, making it a popular spot for early-summer swimming and paddleboarding.

Secluded and flat. Great location to drive your vehicle on and enjoy fantastic beach day!
Drive on beach, July and August can be busy and jam packed, great place to watch sunset. No big waves or currents because its on the sound, so its a great beach to bring kids. There are porta potties in the busy summer months, not in the off season. pick up your trash, there are no trash cans. take out what you take in.
Great location, peaceful water, excellent sunsets
Not impressed AT ALL. It's overcrowded and covered in tons of seaweed and shells. Maybe it's better in the off season. But not in July.
The hurdles of having to get an oversand pass for your car tends to thin out the crowds (except for summer weekends where you should arrive early) - calm water for the most part is great for kids. A fantastic beach.
