Went on a foggy December morning just passing through. It was a beautiful, quiet beach with pretty nature and lots of shells. The water was clear and warm enough to wade.
One of our favorite beaches to walk at sunset to find little critters. The sunset and sunrise are stunning. Our locals and parks dept works so hard to keep our beaches beautiful and they really are. We just ask that tourists also help us by doing their part and taking out what you bring in π©·
Itβs a nice beach to hangout. Cannot see sunset but sunrise can be really good. Driving at night with windows down it can be really good.
I live right across from Babe's Beach and I can honestly say that it's a great beach. They often have beach umbrellas for rent, and Jimmy's on the Pier is a great place to eat lunch/dinner after a fun afternoon out in the sun. It's a good beach for shelling, and one of the best for finding sharks teeth. It's not usually too crowded, and the beach is nicely up-kept.
Babe's Beach is where we usually go to hang out when we want to have a beach day. From downtown Houston, it can be a bear to get to with traffic due to road construction, but it's worth the trip. Parking is easy along the seawall IF you leave early and can nab a spot. It's paid and it's easy if you use the app. We just bought a year pass or whatever because we come down most weekends. There are restrooms along the seawall. There aren't many options for grabbing snacks and drinks here beachside. I think the pier sells some things, but we haven't tried that yet. Make sure you bring plenty of water. I spent most of my summers in Tampa Bay. I spent a weird year on the Pacific. This feels nothing like either of those, this is its own thing entirely. The water is murky here because the river dumps into the ocean. Wild stuff washes up on the beach. If you go at the right time, you can nab some beautiful seashells. I found my first sea bean after a big storm! Take precautions against normal beach threats - the sun, wildlife, rip currents, etc. and don't leave trash and cigarette butts.
