About Cannon Beach
Cannon Beach is renowned for its dramatic 235-foot sea stack, Haystack Rock, which dominates the shoreline and creates tide pools teeming with starfish, anemones, and crabs at low tide. The wide, sandy beach stretches for miles backed by coastal forest and a charming village filled with galleries, restaurants, and surf shops, attracting both families and experienced surfers who ride consistent Pacific swells. The area's cool water temperatures and frequent fog create a moody, contemplative atmosphere that feels worlds away from crowded summer destinations.

Beautiful beach and really clean. The ocean becomes magical during sunset at the right time. The Haystack rock also contains awesome tide pool beneath it when the tide is out. Not too far from one of the beach entrances in the middle of the beach is a really nice shop and a comfortable cafe.
Really nice beach. It is huge and the water was nice and clean. I walked about a km down the beach to haystack rock and back and the views were stunning the whole way. There are also Elk near the entrances to the beach where I parked.
Cannon Beach is one of those iconic Oregon Coast destinations that never loses its magic. The wide, sandy shoreline feels endless, perfect for long walks, playing in the surf, or just sitting back to watch the waves roll in. The star of the show is, of course, Haystack Rockβtowering above the shoreline like a natural monument. Itβs stunning in every season, whether framed by a fiery sunset or surrounded by misty coastal fog. Beyond the dramatic scenery, Cannon Beach has a charm all its own. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with friendly people and a laid-back coastal vibe. Wildlife adds to the experience, tooβitβs not uncommon to spot puffins near Haystack Rock in spring and summer, and even the local rabbits hopping around town add a quirky, delightful touch. The town itself is equally inviting, with cozy cafΓ©s, art galleries, and shops that make it easy to spend a whole day exploring. Whether youβre there for a quick beach stroll or a full weekend getaway, the mix of natural beauty and community warmth makes it special.
It was VERY windy but extremely beautiful, as anticipated. We brought waterproof ponchos to go over our coats and they kept us dry and were windbreakers too. If you park near Tolovana Inn, there's a QR code payment notification at the North entrance to the beach. Have fun!
Wonderful at low tide! There are sometimes park workers there who will let you use their binoculars and show you around the natural beauty! Please be respectful of the wildlife while youβre there, too! Thereβs a lot to enjoy, especially if you like sandy shores or sea stacks.
