What an awesome drive!!! Couldn't see any wild horse, but it was a fabulous beach drive. 4×4 beach driving entrance. It is good for beach drive. We will be back to find wild horses another time.
Love Corolla OBX. We go every year. Beautiful beaches and low key. Great big homes suitable for large groups
The absolute most fun I've had in many years. I probably smiled for two hours straight and this is not a face built for smiling. We came down to OBX specifically to this bucket list item and it did not disappoint. Just wonderful to drive on the beach and see the free roaming horses just wander about.
This is one of the coolest 4x4 beach drive ever and definitely a highlight for us in OBX. So much fun driving from HWY 12 right onto the sand! Wide beach so no problem with 2 way traffic. Seeing the wild horses was an absolute bonus. We did see quite a few cars stuck in sand at the start of the beach drive so do make sure that you have a 4x4 and follow the guidelines. We were mostly fine till way into the drive close to Virginia where sand is thick and soft and we had to steer ourselves out. Guess that’s part of our adventure.
Definitely a great place to check off a bucket list item for free. Easy access to drive on the beach. I highly recommend you follow the advice of taking a 4x4 and lowering your tire pressure to 20psi. There's a gas station right up the road where you can lower your tire pressure and then pump them back up afterwards. We saw 3 horses grazing in the evening. Beautiful scenery that is well worth the trip.
