About Emerald Isle Beach
Emerald Isle Beach stretches across a quiet barrier island known for its calm, clear waters that are ideal for swimming and paddleboarding, making it popular with families seeking safer conditions than the rougher Atlantic-facing beaches nearby. The beach offers a relaxed, small-town atmosphere with wide sandy shores backed by maritime forests and a fishing pier that draws both anglers and sightseers, while the relatively shallow sound waters on the island's western side provide excellent spots for kayaking through salt marshes and spotting marine wildlife.

Emerald Isle Beach is exactly what you want from a classic NC beach day wide, clean sand, gorgeous blue water, and a super relaxed vibe. The pier makes for awesome photos (especially walking underneath it with all the shadows and beams), and itβs fun spotting fishing boats offshore. We also saw shorebirds feeding along the waterline, which made a simple beach walk feel extra scenic. Great place to bring the family, take a long stroll, or just post up and enjoy the sound of the waves. Weβll absolutely be back.
Great NC beach. Day-visitor parking is tough in some areas but if you're renting you're all set. The near-Off-Season is the absolute best - the weather can be perfect. The water is warmer the waves are good for just messing around. The Beach Rescue drives by often but I saw no Beach Nazis hanging around. The Shibumi is the unofficial town beach umbrella-tent so be cool. Very few Jellyfish washed up. Tons of ghost crabs for kids to chase at night.
We really had a wonderful time, it's a beautiful beach, the atmosphere is good, but it would be nice if they fixed the area where everyone leaving the beach removes the salt, it's an unbearable bad smell, it feels like the water that comes out is recycled and comes back and comes in and comes back and goes, because it has a really bad smell if they charge $30 for five hours in the parking lot. Why don't they solve this problem? I've been three times and it's the same, I thought the first time it was something temporary, the second time too, but this is the third time and I have to say it, so they find a solution to that bad smell in that water to remove the salt from the beach. Afterwards, everything is great
Quite beach although where I was there is not much beach. Water is close even at low tide. Vehicles seem to be allowed to drive on daβ beach. Nice though.
Spent a few days here during July of 2025, and enjoyed the beach . I'd give it slightly less than 5 stars if I could because Emerald Isle beach has less than generous parking for visitors that drive there. It also gets crowded in July and seems to attract inconsiderate people that showcase their lack of class. Dogs are allowed here which is great, the ocean and beaches are clean and beautiful. Also, if you like to walk the beach, let's just say you can walk a long ways on this beach before you have to turn around :) Public parking lots had restrooms, showers, and vending machines
