About Hawaiian Electric Beach Park
This west-side Oahu beach is renowned for its consistently warm, calm waters fed by the nearby power plant's discharge, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling year-round when other beaches are rough. The sheltered cove features coral formations close to shore and abundant tropical fish, drawing both families and snorkelers seeking reliable conditions. The park's low-key, local vibe and proximity to the Waianae coast's dramatic mountains create a quieter alternative to crowded tourist beaches.

A beautiful beach with great waves, and itβs a popular spot for surfers who come here to catch waves and spend time in the water. There are quite a few homeless people in the area, but they seem non-aggressive, so donβt be afraid β they mostly keep to themselves. One thing to note is that the waves often push sharp stones onto the shore, and itβs easy to cut yourself if youβre not careful. The beach is also quite rocky with limited sand, and because of the strong waves, swimming can sometimes be dangerous. Overall, itβs a scenic place to visit, but be cautious if you plan to swim.
Monk seal alert π€ it is such a nice walk to walk on the beach and surprisingly found a resting seal couple on the shore. And then, the third one showed up chased the other two away. Beautiful beach to look at sunset. There is picnic area at the top. Nice waves for body boarding.
Truly amazing spot for snorkeling and a really beautiful, unique beach, the old factory nearby makes it feel so atypical. Itβs usually not too crowded, but itβs best for confident, experienced swimmers because the current can be quite strong.
Hawaiian Electric Beach Park was a blast! The snorkeling was incredible, with an abundance of marine life. I thought the beach was rocky and the currents strong, the scenery and wildlife made it well worth the visit.
This is probably my ultimate and I mean ultimate snorkel spot! Youβll see all sorts of marine life - monk seals, dolphins, turtles, you name it! If you travel out to the end of the pipe where the power plant pushes out water - youβll see such an array and schools and schools and schools of fish! Itβs so captivating. Youβll also see scuba divers at the bottom as well!
