About Laniakea Beach
Laniakea Beach is famous as a reliable winter surf spot on Oahu's North Shore, where consistent swells attract surfers from November through February, while the summer months offer calmer, clearer waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The beach's primary draw is its resident sea turtle population, which hauls out on the sand year-round, creating opportunities for respectful wildlife viewing within the legally required distance. The laid-back neighborhood vibe, tree-lined shoreline, and proximity to Haleiwa town's cafes and shops make it feel more local and less crowded than some nearby tourist hotspots.
Visitor Reviews
We visited the beach 4 times but unfortunately never saw any turtles. The view was good but parking was difficult.
We drove around on the north shore and ended up at this wonderful place where we saw tortoises. They were crossing over the beach into the water. There were a couple of on sight guides and helpers to make sure that tortoises were protected and we're able to reach the water safely. It was an incredible sight to see and our family loved seeing them go across and to the water. Totally recommend doing this with your family.
Not too busy when we visited! Many reviews suggest this is a good spot for turtles, we were able to spot 1 coming to rest for the day in the late afternoon near the rocky end of the beach. Parking is limited and can be muddy. Be patient or be willing to park further away on the side of the road and walk! Guardians were present to keep visitors respectful of the honuβs space. Nice beach, just be careful of the waves and any rocky areas as they can be very slippery.
Very chilled beach. Many people come to see the turtles resting at the beach. It's pretty awesome and relaxing. Parking is limited, and you may encounter the "Turtle Traffic " as well due to the popularity. It is better to plan accordingly.
We arrived around 11:15, on a low tide, sunny day. and were honored to see 2 of the turtles π’ basking. parking is limited across the street. recommend going on a weekday, not too crowded. the water is clear, lots of rocks
