About Marshall's Beach

Nestled beneath the Golden Gate Bridge's iconic towers, Marshall's Beach offers dramatic views of the bridge's underside and the Marin Headlands while providing some of the clearest water visibility in the Bay due to its protected cove location. The small, clothing-optional beach attracts a mix of adventurous swimmers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts who don't mind the cold water and steep descent via a hidden staircase tucked into the bluffs. Its secluded position and unique perspective on one of the world's most recognizable landmarks create an intimate, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere that contrasts sharply with San Francisco's busier attractions.

My go to spot when I’m in SF for sunset. Just be aware that some strange characters frequent this area and to take all valuables with you/make your car look empty on the inside. Such a beautiful spot though. You can walk all the way down to the bridge. Don’t advise swimming here. The currents and waves are intense! Also saw plenty of dogs here. Not sure if they’re technically allowed or not but you should look into it if you want to bring yours :).

route on googlemaps misleading; the stairs leading down to the beach are much closer to Baker beach, & its a U turn rather than right turn. Just wait until you see the signpost and don’t go off unmarked β€œpaths”. You can get real up close to the bridge at the rocky end but be alert to high tides.

Undoubtedly you will get the best view of the bridge from here. Medium level hike, add 10 more minutes with the ETA shown on google maps as the last portion of hike is misleading on google maps. But you can easily find the trail as it is clearly marked and major portion of it have stairs.

Marshall’s Beach in San Francisco is a hidden gem, reached by foot via a scenic trail. Its secluded setting offers dramatic Golden Gate Bridge views, rugged shoreline, and peaceful ambianceβ€”perfect for photography, nature walks, and quiet reflection away from city crowds.

A beach very close to the Presidio, which you can access and go down. The walk to get there is 15 minutes and you can find a quiet beach to hang out and the view of the Golden Gate, a good spot to take photos and watch the sunset, try not to be caught at night because the climb is a bit heavy and it gets very dark.
