About Mesa Lane Steps

Mesa Lane Steps offers direct access to one of Santa Barbara's most consistent beach breaks, with reliable waves that attract both beginners and intermediate surfers year-round. The narrow, sandy cove is framed by dramatic sandstone cliffs and provides a more sheltered, less crowded alternative to nearby Rincon, making it ideal for those seeking quality waves without heavy crowds. Beyond surfing, the location's natural rock formations and tide pools invite exploration, while the intimate beach setting creates a distinctly local, laid-back atmosphere that defines the Santa Barbara coast.

You will witness the most beautiful sunset from Mesa lane steps, you can go all the way down the steps, spend some time there, there isn’t much of beach to hang out for longer. But definitely worth seeing the sunset

Some claim a thousand steps but it's about 250 steps each way. Will get you to a nice secluded beach with sea caves in the cliffs that you should visit at low tide.

Santa Barbara has so many cool spots. We accidentally bumped into this place and what a surprise! Not too crowded, great views and perfect location for sunset as well.

Great "hidden" beach access for locals willing to hike down nearly 1000 steps and back up again. If you are looking to walk along or sit on the beach below, be sure to check the tide chart first because the water comes all the way up to the base of the stairs during high tide.

I liked the experience overall. The steps are nice and provide some really nice views of the ocean from the top. I happened to watch quite a few surfers in the morning and it was quite fun. It has a lot of natural beauty on both sides of the steps so the walk down to the beach is also enjoyable. Parking was easy on a Sunday morning. There is free street parking available right at the entrance of the steps.
