About North Beach, Tybee Island
North Beach is Tybee Island's most popular and developed stretch, featuring calm, shallow waters protected by the nearby Tybee Island Pier that make it ideal for swimming and beginner surfers during winter swells. The wide sandy beach backed by the historic lighthouse and Victorian architecture creates a charming, family-friendly atmosphere that draws both tourists and locals seeking a lively scene with abundant restaurants, shops, and lifeguard presence. The beach's northern placement catches the gentlest Atlantic conditions compared to other Tybee shores, making it the most accessible option for younger swimmers and those seeking predictable, manageable surf.

2025-08: It's been far too long since I was finally able to walk this beach in the evening as the sun went down, watching ships galore on the horizon, finding sea shells and dodging crabs just after the sun went down. It was a little busy but everyone was mindful of others and it was pleasant and serene.

This beach is beautiful and not very populated one. This beach is very clean and beautiful! The view is gorgeous and there always seem to be dolphins jumping in the distance. The water was very nice on the island. Tt's a beautiful beach, we loved it there, kids enjoyed the beach. Close by convenient parking on rocky surfaces though. The beach access is a small walk from the parking area.
Clean beach with great views of cargo ships! Super close to the lighthouse and you can get to-go drinks from the little beach bar to take down with you! The rental umbrellas and chairs saved us from the heat and sun and made the day much more enjoyable!
Yes, some of my pictures aren't of the North Beach area but they are still Tybee, and it was a family day trip. We got to see dolphins out where a couple of surfers were (near the rocks) and picked up a few seashells on our walk. It's sad to see some people not reading or obeying the signs about the dunes though. The one in particular was sitting on the driftwood (we called the wood "Land Shark") by the sign. Riding around, we came across the artworks in a yard. We had to get pictures as they were unique and my granddaughter loved them.
