About Pine Trees Surfing Beach
Pine Trees is a consistent reef break on Kailua-Kona's leeward coast known for reliable, well-formed waves that peel across shallow volcanic rock, making it a favorite among experienced surfers seeking quality barrels rather than a mellow beginner spot. The beach sits below sparse kiawe and coconut palms with views of the open ocean and neighboring breaks, offering a more local, less crowded atmosphere than nearby tourist beaches. Strong currents and sharp reef require skill and respect, but the combination of predictable swell windows, dramatic volcanic backdrop, and genuine local character make it a standout for surfers who know what they're doing.
Visitor Reviews
I visited this beach on a Sunday afternoon and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. The weekend is when literally a couple thousand people descend on this spot. The sand was lined with hundreds of tents and all the parking spots and every piece of ground you could possibly fit a car onto was filled. Imagine all this traffic on a skinny, one lane road! I was in a line of traffic when we all had to hit reverse and drive backwards in a long line simultaneously to let someone get through. No offense to the people. They seem like nice families having a great time. Crowds just aren't my thing. The beach is pretty but it's quite rocky with piles of boulders obstructing ocean entry. It's only good for hanging out or surfing if you are super experienced at it. Not a good place to swim. I'm sure it's less crowded during the week, but just be ware if you are headed that way on a weekend or holiday.
Easy access from Kona. Drive in. Plenty of parking. Local surf spot. Bring chairs and shade. We opted for shade under trees. White sand beach, but many rocks. Full bathrooms and showers. Clean area.
Beautiful beach, not full of tourists, let's keep it this way. Great for relaxing and surfing, out if the way, beautifully quiet.
This used to be a great place to camp and enjoy the peace and quiet. Watch some surfing and chill. No more, It is now the "Party place" loud music all night and starts up early in the morning. If that is what you are into that this is the place. But if you like camp with family and try to enjoy the beach not so much. Oh and if you not the kine do not set up camp down at the end.
Great place to sit and watch the sun go down. A lot of locals will camp here, awesome place to chill with the kids or spouse and watch the sunsets
