About Playa Del Rey Beach
Playa Del Rey Beach offers a quieter, more residential alternative to nearby Venice and Santa Monica, with calm, protected waters ideal for swimming and beginner surfers, backed by a narrow strip of sand and modest homes rather than commercial development. The beach's proximity to the LA River mouth creates unique ecological conditions and attracts local families and long-time residents seeking a low-key coastal experience away from tourist crowds. Its working-class character and access to nearby Ballona Wetlands make it appealing for those interested in both beach recreation and nature observation.

Great open beach. A few shells. Cement bike/ walking path. Lots of room. Volleyball π courts. Bathrooms. Huge sand dune to slide down.... Plenty of free off street parking.
It may not be the biggest or fanciest of the LA Beaches but Playa Del Rey has a lot of charm and theyβve made great strides in cleaning this beach in recent years. Itβs an excellent spot for bird watching!
No bun fires on the sand should be enforced. It was a good reason to have that rule up to a few years ago. Not fun to walk into firewood piles at sunset, then next day into charred wood pieces on the sand. There is Dockweiler beach for lighting fires. Playa del Rey should remain (one of the last) pristine and peaceful beaches in LA county.
I went on a Tuesday during sunset it was beautiful and peaceful hardly anyone there and the water was so warm great to swim Iβve never felt that in my life it was amazing because all the LA beaches Iβve seen to are freezing! Please keep this an uncrowded clean beach!
Lovely ! Bike trail clean and the perfect time to be there the weather was magnificent!
