Visitor Reviews
Poplar Beach in Half Moon Bay is a serene coastal retreat that offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Located at the end of Poplar Street, this city-run beach is renowned for its accessibility and welcoming atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy scenic walks along the blufftop trail, which provides stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the iconic Mavericks surf spot. The beach is notably dog-friendly, allowing leashed dogs to roam the sands, a rarity among California beaches. This makes it a favorite among pet owners who wish to enjoy the beach with their furry companions. Additionally, Poplar Beach accommodates horseback riders, adding a unique charm to the area. However, visitors should be aware of the steep trail leading down to the beach, which requires sturdy footwear. Once on the sand, the expansive shoreline invites leisurely strolls and relaxation. Amenities at Poplar Beach include restrooms and showers, enhancing the comfort of visitors. While the beach does not permit fires or fireworks, it remains a tranquil spot ideal for picnics, beachcombing, and enjoying the coastal environment. Whether you're seeking a peaceful day by the ocean or an active outing with your pet, Poplar Beach offers a welcoming and picturesque setting
This is a great beach access with a nearby parking lot away from the highway. There are only portable toilets and a automatic parking paying stand. There is a nearby paved walking/biking path. Great bird watching. Many bikers, dog walkers and fishermen.
Nice, quiet, pet friendly, beautiful area, no wheelchair access, many steps to access the beach. Parking is $10 paid at a machine, if coming for a shirt time. Park outside the parking lot and walk using the nice walkway.
Excellent Beach for Fall and Early Winter Visits. Poplar is dog friendly (on leash) and a wonderful way to spend an afternoon
Poplar Beach in Half Moon Bay is perfect for dog ownersβjust a few minutesβ walk from the parking lot, and youβll have nearly the whole beach to yourselves thanks to limited entry points. After letting our pup run free, we stroll over to the Ritz-Carlton and return via the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail. Itβs peaceful, dog-friendly, and rarely crowded once youβre off the main path.
