About Pounder's Beach
Pounder's Beach on Oahu's windward coast is a dramatic and rugged stretch of shoreline known for its powerful shore break and consistent waves that attract experienced surfers and bodyboarders year-round. The beach's name derives from the forceful, pounding surf that crashes against the sandy shore, creating an exhilarating and sometimes challenging swimming environment best suited for confident water enthusiasts. Visitors are drawn to this scenic, less-crowded beach for its raw natural beauty, excellent wave conditions, and the stunning backdrop of lush green cliffs and mountains that characterize the windward side of Oahu.

This is a beautiful beach located very close to the Polynesian Culture Center. It has a soft sandy beach and lots of shady areas. From the beach, you can see the blue ocean with the green mountains as a backdrop. It’s one of the many great beaches here on the island. There was a parking area and a shower, but no washroom or changing area. There are some good food trucks and a Foodland nearby for added convenience.
We stopped by this beach randomly, for what was supposed to be a quick ‘’stretching our legs’’ before getting back in the car, that became a 3 hours stop with a lot of fun. The waves are not too strong, it was calm and clean. The wind and the view kept us cool and the view was beautiful.
This beach is wildly underrated. It’s not a great beach for traditional surfing, but it’s probably the best beach on the island for body surfing and body boarding. It’s also a great place to hang out in the water. Once in a blue moon you can snorkel here but for 99% of days you cannot. There are some cliffs here to walk up on as well. This beach is right along Kam highway so it’s really easy to make a stop here.
We went for a quick stop at Pounder’s Beach aka Laie Beach Park or vice versa. It was another wild beach we visited during the winter months. It’s only a couple minutes drive from the Polynesian Cultural Centre in Laie (check Pounder’s Restaurant for a great pizza) on the eastern part of the island. The park was pretty empty during our visit and it was also quite windy with big waves…perfect conditions for the wave riders! Too bad the weather wasn’t warm enough to enjoy the water but just being at the beach was fun for us.
A nice beach just south of Laie. The sand is fine and the water is mostly clear. The waves were very aggressive near the south corner and there were lots of people with boards having fun in them. Near the northern part of the shore is an inlet to some still water where it looks greenish and a ton of trash has washed up on shore. There was a ton of trash also churning in the water in that area as well. The small parking lot seemed to be able to fit the amount of people that were on the beach. We came midday and had plenty of space to ourselves. Just have a look if you’re in the trash area before you set down your things and hop in.
