About Rest Beach
Rest Beach offers calm, shallow waters ideal for swimming and wading, making it one of the few easily accessible swimming spots in Key West where the sandy bottom and protected conditions create a genuine beach experience. The secluded location near the southern tip of the island attracts a quieter crowd seeking escape from the busier Duval Street scene, with mangrove-lined shores and sunset views over the Gulf of Mexico adding natural character. Snorkeling in the nearby shallows reveals small fish and coral formations, while the relaxed atmosphere appeals to families and those wanting a more low-key alternative to Key West's party-focused beaches.

Beautiful sunset from the pier, nice quiet area with friendly people everywhere. Fishing on sides of pier but not crowded. Benches on each side giving everyone a place to sit and relax. Parking across the street makes it a easy walk.
Nice for swimming as it doesnβt get deep fast. When we went there was quite a bit of seaweed washed up from a recent storm. Overall good views and nice beach.
Nice local beach thatβs not too far from the busier Key West area. Shallow water thatβs good for walking or even snorkeling area
Small strip of sand just E of the much larger Higgs Beach. A nice place for a stroll or to look out at the Atlantic Ocean, but not a good swimming beach. Mostly used by residents of the condos that line Atlantic Ave. UPDATE: Rest Beach is a disaster right now. The city is in the process of beach restoration (and hopefully replacing a few missing picnic tables), but there is no reason to visit until the work is complete.
We call it Chicken Wing Beach! Chickens and Wing hydrofoil spot.
