About Sailors Haven
Sailors Haven on Fire Island offers a sheltered bay swimming area with calm, shallow waters ideal for families, backed by pristine sand dunes and a historic lighthouse that has anchored the community since 1876. The village maintains a quiet, car-free atmosphere where visitors arrive by ferry, creating a peaceful alternative to busier beach areas, with activities centered around swimming, walking nature trails through maritime forest, and exploring the nearby Sunken Forest's boardwalk ecosystem. The bay-facing orientation means gentler conditions than the ocean side of Fire Island, making it particularly appealing for less experienced swimmers and those seeking a more intimate beach experience.

Great spot to visit for a day trip. Thereβs a clean, well-maintained beach with nearby showers and bathrooms. Thereβs a nearby restaurant β which serves reasonably good, albeit overpriced food. The Sunken Forest boardwalk is right nearby. Cherry Grove β the historically queer beach community β is less than a mile away, along a designated path through holly, pines, and local vegetation. Bring insect repellent β just in case. Depending on the season, there are sometimes giant, aggressive mosquitoes.
Great place! You can reach it just by ferry ($18 round trip) from Sayville,Β but it is really worth it! Bring a lot of water, and have some protection against mosquitoes if you wish to walk through the forest,Β which is really beautiful! If you wish, you can walk to Cherry Grow villageΒ - this is a beautiful place by itself Enjoy!
Sailors Haven on Fire Island, NY is a slice of paradise that embodies the essence of summer bliss. Picture-perfect clear blue skies, boats bobbing gently in the harbor, and the laid-back atmosphere of late summer make it the ultimate getaway destination. Indulging in mudslides while soaking up the sun on the beach is pure relaxation. Don't forget to ask about the legendary SassyFrass sauce! Cheers, Marisa Balletti-Lavoie
Very clean beach with clean public bathrooms, a small outdoor bar, and food next to bar with some outdoor tables. There is also the sunken forest with a boardwalk that goes through the forest and has shade. It's family oriented and not over crowed. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
The best part of FI. I love this place. 3 foot draft or less recommended.
