About Sandbridge Beach

Sandbridge Beach is a quieter, family-friendly stretch of Virginia Beach's southern shore, known for its calm bay waters on the western side and wider, more dynamic oceanfront on the east, making it ideal for both swimmers and surfers depending on conditions. The area maintains a more residential, laid-back atmosphere than the busy boardwalk further north, with access to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge offering excellent kayaking, fishing, and wildlife viewing opportunities. Strong summer currents and occasional undertow on the ocean side require attention, but the relatively undeveloped setting and proximity to maritime forests make it a preferred destination for those seeking beach time without heavy commercialization.

Beautiful beach. We enjoyed Labor Day weekend with friends. I like to walk. Every morning I stepped off at 7. I practically owned the beach. Although our section of the beach did not have lifeguards, lifeguards and EMTs from other sections of the beach drove by on ATVs at regular intervals. Flags were posted on all beach access points to identify surf safety conditions.

Serene stretch of ocean with less crowds to deal with. Lovely beach for adults and kids alike. Can spend the entire day relaxing and chilling on the beach. It’s less than half hour south the main Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Recommended for folks who want to have a great beach experience without having to deal with the crowds

Sandbridge Beach is beautiful, quiet, and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Wide sandy beaches, clean water, and a peaceful atmosphere make it ideal for morning walks, family time, or simply unplugging. A great spot if you prefer calm over crowds.

Sandbridge Beach was founded in 1952. The first house was built in Sandbridge Beach in 1953. My family introduced me to Sandbridge Beach in 1970. When I was kid my uncles and brother use to build dune buggies and ride the mountain-like sand dunes. Today the sand dunes a small and few in existence. Now it is illegal to even sit on the sand dunes. The same little Sandbridge Market still exists today. Sandbridge Beach like a little island. Sandbridge Beach has a fire department, churches, Baja Restaurant, Simply Steamed Restaurant, Zeros, and Sandbridge Island Restaurant. Plenty park in two inexpensive pay parking lots. Public restrooms available near both parking lots. Love watching the dolphins and surfers.πŸ¬πŸ„πŸ»β€β™‚οΈSandbridge Beach is family friendly and less crowded than our Virginia Beach Oceanfront. πŸ–οΈπŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸ„

Great beach to escape with family without the crowds and loud noises. Sunsets were beautiful and there’s some great places to eat within 15 mins of the area.
