About Santa Cruz Beach

Santa Cruz Main Beach offers consistent, rideable waves that draw surfers year-round, while its protected position along the curved coastline creates calmer waters ideal for swimmers and families. The iconic Beach Boardwalk runs directly behind the sand, mixing a working-class surf culture with vintage amusement park energy, including the 1911 Giant Dipper roller coaster that frames views of the Pacific. The beach's dark sand, cool water temperatures (50-60Β°F), and frequent fog create a moody, energetic atmosphere distinct from Southern California's polished resort beaches.

We visited around sunset. Even though the sun wasn’t visible, the sky had beautiful colors and the beach itself was absolutely lovely. However, the boardwalk was closed for maintenance when we visited, which we didn’t know in advance. Still, the beach and views made the trip worthwhile.

Cruz Beach is the perfect mix of ocean views, good vibes, and fun energy. The sand is clean, the waves are great for a quick splash or surf, and the sunset views are absolutely beautiful. You can grab food or ice cream nearby, walk along the Boardwalk, or just chill and watch the waves. It has that classic California beach charm , lively but still peaceful if you walk a little farther down. Definitely one of my favorite spots to unwind!

Walked along beach in late October nice place to relax. Lots of the rides closed for season. Cafes and bars open.

Definitely a great place to go with a significant other or a family. Definitely has a friendly culture. Your night time experience is wonderful as well you can see the end of the wharf to the end of the board walk. Doesn’t require much walking but does get busy in the afternoon highly recommend showing up near opening if you want the best experience. If you want cheaper parking bring quarters and park on the streets.

Pretty nice, but if you look back the amusement park is kind of an eyesore. Lots of birds at the beach.
