About Santa Monica State Beach
Santa Monica State Beach stretches three and a half miles along a wide sandy shoreline backed by the Santa Monica Pier, an iconic 1909 amusement park structure that draws visitors year-round. The beach offers reliable waves for beginner and intermediate surfers, calm waters in the bay suitable for swimming and paddleboarding, and consistent sunshine with average water temperatures in the high 50s to low 60s Fahrenheit. The atmosphere balances casual tourism with a laid-back California beach culture, supported by a lively boardwalk featuring street performers, vendors, and easy access to restaurants and shops just beyond the sand.

Great beach to bring your family for a fun day in the water or just to walk along the shoreline. This beach has plenty of parking (paid) and more than enough space for everyone to snag a spot on the beach. They have many restroom facilities along the beach long with showers for when you are done in the ocean. I will add that the restrooms were all filthy. I highly suggest that if you need to change, not to do it at one of the public facilities. Homeless have taken up residence in some of the stalls and it is disgusting inside to say the least. This is the only reason I do not give the beach 5 stars.
Santa Monica is the best beach, boardwalk, and seaside shopping/dining in Southern California. The boardwalk is home to the legendary

Being a friendly beach it also attracted friendly beach lovers.
A view from the Santa Monica Pier of the beautiful, long sandy beach of Venice Beach. Pure vacation bliss.
