About Shell Beach
Shell Beach in Ocean Beach offers one of San Diego's most sheltered coves, with calm, clear waters that make it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and beginner surfers. The beach is named for its abundance of shells and small rocks, creating a unique textured shoreline backed by a relaxed, family-friendly residential neighborhood rather than commercial development. The rocky outcroppings and kelp beds attract marine life, making it a favorite spot for tide pooling and underwater exploration.

Lots of little creatures to see on the tide pools, rocks you can climb on for better view, nice clear waters. Really enjoyed our stop here
Very pretty view over the pacific ocean! Especially for during the sunset!
Busy location. Perfect to see the seals/sea lions and take pictures. Avoid going down to the beach when sea lions are present as they can attack you. Access down via stairs, highly recommend for simple seal watching and photos
Great spot to chill and watch the sun set. Open clean beach with lots of tide pools. Some stairs to go down . When u get to the bottom of them , it goes right to big bolders to walk on to the beach. Watch ur step at this point. Watched a lot of people lose there footing . Parking was ok for Jan. Some in the area
This is a really nice little beach. I watched folks taking some really nice pictures along the shore, and especially the caves or crevices that are cut into the rocks. You can overlook the beach and area surrounding from the top where there is a nice little viewing hut. I found this to be a nice option because to access the beach, you must walk down a long concrete staircase. The down side is then you must walk back up the long concrete staircase to climb back up. Just a really nice little beach.
