About South Beach
South Beach offers the warmest, calmest waters on Martha's Vineyard thanks to its protected position in Katama Bay, making it ideal for swimming and beginner surfers during summer swells. The wide sandy beach stretches for miles with gentle dunes and salt marsh views, creating a quieter, more family-friendly atmosphere than the island's oceanside beaches. It's a prime spot for kayaking, shellfishing, and watching the sunset over the bay, with a laid-back local vibe that balances accessibility and natural beauty.

Great beach with plenty of space even when crowded! Water was clean and waves were fun to swim in. Parking is also easy which is a plus! Beach rolling chairs are available for people with handicaps. Would recommend
Pristine, tranquil and family friendly. Even though itβs not very swimmable here, itβs my go-to beach during my stay at Edgartown. Itβs just so therapeutic in so many ways. I havenβt seen any drunk people making scenes here. I havenβt seen anyone trashing this place. That 30 minute walk on the clean and somewhat dense sand with my loved ones remain one of core memories. Letβs keep it this way people.
HUGE waves. Took an easy bus ride here from the ferry. No life guards. I usually swim but the waves here were intimidating. Beautiful beach.
Great sand! Great waves! Could use more modern amenities, such as bathrooms and showers. Overall, a must visit whenever in MV!
There are a lot of seagulls and big waves, there are rest rooms located right by the beach and lifeguard towers.
