About South Casa Beach

South Casa Beach is a scenic cove nestled in the upscale coastal community of Del Mar, featuring a pristine sandy shoreline backed by dramatic sandstone cliffs and tide pools that reveal colorful sea life during low tide. The beach is beloved by locals for its relatively sheltered conditions, calm waters ideal for swimming and paddling, and excellent opportunity for spotting leopard sharks and other marine wildlife in the shallow nearshore areas. Visitors appreciate its quieter, more intimate atmosphere compared to San Diego's busier beaches, along with easy access to nearby restaurants and shops in the charming village of Del Mar.

We enjoyed talking a walk along this area to La Jolla Cove. The stretch of side was easily walkable with great views of the ocean, wildlife, and the cliffs and beaches below. The beach at this stretch is not very big, but it is accessible. There is a staircase that leads from the sidewalk to the beach. There is a lifeguard hut here as well. However, I'm not sure about their hours of operation, so I'd check ahead if that is a concern for you. Also there isn't a formal parking lot nearby. From what I could tell, it was all street parking only.

We took a friend of ours visiting from Virginia there over the weekend. It was beautiful. Quite a few people there but not too bad. The Children’s Pool observation walkway was closed. Looked like part of the railing at the end had fallen.

Visiting from Maryland on business and went out to relax and enjoy the view. Absolutely spectacular!

Nice location, water full of kelp and beach full of seagulls, but very pretty, and we set up our towels in the shadow of the short cliff. Parking and driving around La Jolla was miserable, however. Possibly due to being between holidays (christmas and new years), possibly always like that? Gridlock upon leaving. Wanted to see the cave, but a line out the door. Whole town was super busy! Children's pool closed due to seals, which drew a crowd also. Overall, an experience. Beautiful area but too many people/cars.

Incredible spot. So beautiful! It was so enjoyable to sit and watch the waves! Big waves! I hope to return soon.
