About South Mission Beach, San Diego
South Mission Beach offers consistent, beginner-friendly waves and a vibrant boardwalk atmosphere that blends surfing culture with family recreation. The mile-long stretch of golden sand fronts a lively promenade lined with restaurants, shops, and the iconic Belmont Park amusement park, creating an energetic social scene that extends well beyond sunset. The protected waters and gradual sandy bottom make it ideal for swimming and paddleboarding, while the reliable summer swells attract surfers seeking accessible breaks without the intensity of nearby point breaks.

May have to circle the parking lot a few times until a spot opens up, but great beach overall. Attentive lifeguards, plenty of space to spread out, bathrooms and rinse-off showers, and nice view of the coastline. Thereβs a pretty large grassy area, volleyball courts, and basketball courts. Visited many times on weekday evenings to skim board and catch the sunset. Parking lot is still pretty full around 6:00pm but usually we find a parking spot near the lot entrance or as someone is leaving. Weekends are more crowded and parking is trickier but if with patience, youβll get a spot. If not, thereβs another parking lot down the road (next to Belmont park) with a bigger lot and an additional lot across the street. From the times when I have visited, people at this beach were friendly and fun.
I was impressed by what a large park and beach this area is! You could easily spend a whole day here just chillin' and enjoying the park, the sports, the beach and swimming. There are even a few grills and firepits available to use. I was just here for a short while to sit on the beach and watch the sunset. It is overall a great place for that. The beach is a bit messy with washed-up seaweed, but overall, it's still enjoyable!
Beautiful and large beach area with plenty of things to see, play, do, or just chill. Big enough that it won't look too crowded. There are many AirBNBs and rentals very close or on the beach. There is also Belmont Park park right by the beach, and plenty of places to eat. Kids and adults can easily enjoy a whole day here.
This is the southernmost point of Mission Beach. It's a very spacious beach that attracts many people. There are several places where you can play beach volleyball. While there are public parking lots nearby, there are no restaurants, cafes, or shops right next to it.( Foods are few blocks away) It can get quite crowded during the popular summer months, especially during summer vacation.
I love mission Beach always love mission Beach clean beach good people clean water. Absolutely love this beach we'll be back time and time again This is definitely came family tradition for my son and I coming to this beach.
