About Sunset Beach Park

Sunset Beach lives up to its name with powerful winter swells that transform the North Shore break into one of the world's most challenging big wave surfing destinations, while summer months bring calm, crystalline waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The park's distinctive golden sand and dramatic rocky outcrops create a striking backdrop, and the relaxed local vibe mixed with serious athletes gives it an authentic North Shore character that draws both families on calm days and surf pilgrims during the winter swell season.

The Atmosphere: If you want to be away from people, this is the spot. Crowds: Compared to other North Shore spots, it was not much crowded. You can actually find your own space on the sand. Safety: The area feels safe and well-maintained. Amenities: Facilities: A big plus is the clean bathroom—not always a guarantee at beach parks! Parking: There were plenty of parking spots available, which made the stop stress-free. The Experience: The View: We really enjoyed the view and watching the surfers tackle the swells. It is a classic North Shore experience. Warning: Definitely be careful with the waves. They are very strong (especially in winter), so admire them from the sand unless you are an expert. Verdict: A perfect, quieter alternative to the busier beaches. Come for the sunset and the surfers, stay for the clean facilities and peace.

Easily a 5* beach if parking wasn’t an issue. The waves were gorgeous to watch (not quite big enough for experienced surfers). Lots of tourists right around sunset for obvious reasons. The sand was soft and quite relaxing just sitting there watching life goes by.

We came for the sunset and this beach had the best one we had the privilege to see. It was a windy day and the ocean put on quite a show. I recommend this beach.

Some of the best surf on Oahu's north shore. Beware if you are not an experienced surfer, the water is dangerous and what looks mild, could pick you up and take you out into the surf quickly. For me, I prefer to watch as locals ride the waves. They make it look so easy.

Went here to watch the sunset...it was a beautiful spot to do so. You had to be patient to find a parking space as it gets busy and a number of people gather to watch it. I recommend getting there at least 30 minutes before sunset.
